Worcester VegFest – April 17, 2010

Student Center at Worcester State College - 12-5pm

The Worcester VegFest is a FREE festival that brings together residents to celebrate vegetarianism–an animal-friendly, environmentally sustainable, and healthy lifestyle. Our event features socially responsible businesses, inspiring speakers, musicians, and lots of free samples of tasty vegan food.

Speakers

Dr. Michael Greger. M.D., Humane Society, Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture

michael_greger Dr. Greger will give practical advice on how best to feed ourselves and our families to prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic disease.

Dr. Greger’s presentations are described by audiences as “riveting,” “spellbinding,” and “brilliant,” and you can always count on great wit and humor.  He is author of the books Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching, and Carbophobia: The Scary Truth Behind America’s Low Carb Craze, and has produced nutrition and cooking DVDs.

Erica Meier, Executive Director, Compassion Over Killing, Clark Alum

erica-meier Executive Director of Compassion Over Killing, a DC-based non-profit focused on preventing the abuse of animals on factory farms, Erica Meier will discuss national animal rights campaigns.

Jon Camp, Director of Outreach, Vegan Outreach

joncamp Director of Vegan Outreach. Jon Camp will share ideas about how to get involved in the vegetarian movement.

Jon Camp, Director of Outreach for Vegan Outreach, has spent the last six years leafleting North American campuses on behalf of Vegan Outreach’s Adopt a College campaign.  In this time, he has personally handed out over a half million booklets to students at over 400 colleges in the US and Canada.  To date, Vegan Outreach activists have distributed over 11 million booklets to the general public.

John Sanbonmatsu, Professor of Philosophy, WPI

sanbonmatsu John Sanbonmatsu connects animal rights with other social movements and puts veganism in the context of the broader social justice movement. He is a tenured professor of philosophy atWorcester Polytechnic Institute, where he challenges his students to consider animals’ interests. John is the author of the book, ‘The Postmodern Prince,’ and editor of a forthcoming volume of essays on animal liberation and critical theory.
