Lab-Grown Meat explained in less than 4 minutes. Would you eat it?

Posted by .

Lab-grown meat? What’s that all about? Hank from SciShow youtube channel explains it in less than 4 minutes. Watch the video below and tell me what you think.

This discussion has been going on for a while. Back in 2008, Wired magazine ran an article suggesting that lab-grown meat may soon be a reality. PETA quickly followed with a challenge to award $1 million to anyone who brought affordabl lab-grown meat to supermarkets.

So what do you think? Are you excited about lab-grown meat? Or does it freak you out? Do you see it as a solution to the ethical problems of raising animals for food? Or do you see it a whole new dimension to the same old problem?

It would be a solution to the terrible problems of raising amimals for food. Anything as a substitute is better than we have now.

When we did a show about lab meat, we found opinion was divided. Philosopher David Pearce thought it could save the animals – but Jordi Casamitjana thought it would only go to make things worse.

Completing the fairly comprehensive vegan review of lab meat, Diana (my co-host) also surveyed people of different animal ethics to find out if they’d eat lab meat.

Meat is disgusting and I wouldn’t eat it for all the money in the world but we need to do ANYTHING to save animals from suffering! If it could rapidly begin replace the mass breeding and brutalizing of sentient beings for slaughter, I’m all for it.
