Making room at the table (for vegans) [T&G]
Posted by Drew.

Yesterday’s Telegram & Gazette featured a piece on locals opening up their homes to guests during Thanksgiving (Making room at the table). The article is a pretty standard feel-good holiday piece, but the neat thing is that Jacqueline Reis (the author) included a mention of some staff at Atlantic Union College hosting who are having some of their students over for a vegan Thanksgiving.
From “Making room at the table” by Jacqueline Reis:
Several people at Atlantic Union College in Lancaster are hosting students from their school. Maura Gerrans-Ortiz, a staff member, will host two students; Edward A. Rivera, a former English as a second language teacher, will host a Brazilian student and his family; and Kallie M. Kirchberg, another staffer, opens up her on-campus home to all comers on Thanksgiving. Visitors won’t find a turkey, however: Mrs. Kirchberg, who is as generous with recipes as she is with food, also happens to be vegan. The menu will include (fake) beef stroganoff, lasagna and spinach pie.
Too often articles that address vegetarianism around Thanksgiving-time portray us vegetarians as wet-blankets and spoilsports. Let me tell you, vegans like having big get-togethers and sharing yummy food just as much as anyone else. This year there were tons of vegan Thanksgiving events in Worcester, like the SAVVY Thanksgiving.
What did you do for Thanksgiving?
I want to hear about what you vegetarians did for Thanksgiving this year. Did you go to a family get-together? A veg potluck? Go out to eat?
