Vegan Feed-in Number Two [Nov 21]

We’re Doing Another Vegan Feed-in This Saturday

feed-in-1-19-09-015

This Saturday, November 21, from noon to 1pm, join VegWorcester at the McDonalds located at 465 Shrewsbury Street, Worcester (map) for our second ever vegan feed-in. We will be giving out free samples of veg chicken along with information about becoming vegetarian. This is a great way to demonstrate that eating vegetarian is easy and tasty. We have all the supplies (including a sweet new banner), but need volunteers to make this happen.

feed-in-october

Last month VegWorcester held it’s first ever vegan feed-in. It was a huge success. We spent a couple hours outside of the McDonald’s on Main Street. We reached about 125 people, some of whom even joined us for the rest of the event. There were about 15 of us, some holding signs, some handing out booklets, and some with food samples.

Why are we targeting McDonalds?

From McCruelty.com:

In the slaughterhouses of McDonald’s U.S. and Canadian chicken suppliers, birds are dumped out of their transport crates and hung upside down in metal shackles, which can result in broken bones, extreme bruising, and hemorrhaging. Workers have the opportunity to abuse live birds, and birds have their throats cut while they are still conscious. Many birds are immersed in tanks of scalding-hot water while they are still alive and able to feel pain.

In 2000, following the launch of the McCruelty campaign, McDonald’s made some basic animal welfare improvements. Since that time, the company has refused to eliminate the worst abuses that its chickens suffer, including abuses during slaughter. This cruelty could be illegal if dogs or cats—or even pigs or cows—were the victims.

McDonald’s is a symbol of factory-farming and unhealthy food, so we will be out there demonstrating that a tangible alternative exists. Eating vegetarian is an easy way to help animals abused and killed in factory farms.

Volunteer

At the feed-in this weekend, we have an awesome new color banner and sweet  printed posters. We still need people to volunteer to help out. Can you come out for an hour? We are looking for people who can be there from noon to 1pm, holding our new banner, giving out flyers, and handing out the free food samples. If you plan to come out, either leave a comment here, send me an email a drew@VegWorcester.com, or RVSP to the facebook event.
