Animal Activists Protest the Circus in Worcester, Starting Today

About two months ago, I wrote a letter-to-the-editor at the Telegram & Gazette about animal cruelty at circuses like Ringling Brothers. Well, October is here and so is Ringling Brothers. I love circus arts. I love juggling, magic tricks, acrobatics, clowns, the whole thing, but anyway you slice it, circuses that involve animals are cruel. A recent undercover investigation of Ringling Brothers found trainers hitting elephants with metal spikes and other abuse.

Starting tonight at 6pm there will demonstrations at most of the Ringling shows in Worcester. Join animal activists at the DCU center this evening to hand out literature and hold signs asking people to not come back to the circus next year. Even though this isn’t an event that VegWorcester is organizing, I’m sure there will a number of VegWorcester members present.

The next few days are pretty packed with animal rights events. On Saturday, before the buffet at Buddha Hut, VegWorcester is hosting a vegan “feed-in” at the McDonalds on Main Street. After all that, the Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition is holding another demonstration at the circus. The next few days are going to put some serious wear on my VegWorcester shirt.
