A Eulogy for TJ’s House of Vegan Pizza in Boston

Posted by .

Bad news. Another awesome vegan restaurant just closed. Tuesday night was TJ Scallywaggle’s last one.

After 2 years of being an entirely vegan pizza and sub shop, TJ’s is no more. The collective who was running it have decided that they can no longer support it. The details are unclear, but last night they held a large goodbye party. It was an all-you-can-eat vegan pizza party.

Driving to Boston for TJs last night

When we got the email in the morning, some of us from Worcester went out to TJs to try and catch one last pizza.

Apparently there was misinfo and it wasnt opening until later

Unfortunately when we got there, we found a note saying there was a miscommunication. Apparently TJ’s wasn’t opening until 6pm, which is long after we had to leave to be back in Worcester (It’s a Tuesday, we needed to watch Whale Wars that night!).

We got lucky. They invited us in and made us a special pizza.

RIP TJ’s. I can only hope that the people who were involved with TJ’s start another awesome vegan food project.

Did you make it to TJs while it was still open? Wasn’t it the awesome-est?

Not another one. I loved TJ’s.
Though I must say, last time I was there (a couple weeks ago) I found them to be a bit rude, they screwed up my order and the people working behind the counter were swearing during their conversations, I was really glad I didn’t have my kids with me. Maybe they weren’t trying too hard because they knew they were closing?

…so sad.. let’s hope similar vegan chains will come along – not the same old boring calorie-loaded monsters we see everywhere.

I just got back from vacation and was so sorry to hear about this (and Quan Yin, too!). Alas. More motivation to get out and patronize the veg and veg-friendly restaurants we DO have, so that they’ll be able to stick around!
