New All-Veg Chinese Restaurant Opens on Chandler Street

Woah! There’s a new vegan Chinese restaurant opening in Worcester! Buddha Hut has great food, a quaint atmosphere, it’s inexpensive, and it’s in a pretty good location. Definitely worth a visit!

My Review
With vegetarian mock-meat entrées like kung pao chicken, sesame beef, and heavenly chicken, even the most meat-loving among us will be able find something they like. Add some fried chicken drumsticks, spring rolls or wonton soup as an appetizer and you’ve got yourself a solid meal. This all-vegetarian restaurant is a nice place to grab a quick lunch or sit down with the family for a nice dinner.
Entrées are reasonably priced at around $7 or $8, but with appetizers and drinks your meal will likely come out closer to $10. If you’re really pinching pennies, try their lunch specials. The portions are the same size, but only costs 5 bucks. Each lunch special comes with rice, a spring roll and a fried wonton. Hard to beat for 5 bucks! In addition to the deep-fried goodness of their mock-meat dishes, they also have a good selection of fancy-pants fruit smoothies. I was impressed by the strawberry and coconut milk smoothie. It made for a nice desert.
The people behind Buddha Hut are the same folks who created Quan Yin, one of Central Mass’ top veg restaurants. Quan Yin is located at 56 Hamilton St in Worcester and has a similar menu, but slightly cheaper prices and a different atmosphere. Buddha Hut is larger and more geared towards formal dining than Quan Yin. Despite the similarities, the two restaurants don’t see each other as competitors. I’m certainly of the opinion that there is room enough for both places here in the heart of Massachusetts.
Give it a try! The grand opening is on March 31. You’ll get 10% off your order and you’ll even get some free pound cake to boot! The place will be open everyday until then, but they’re still working out some kinks. When I went on Friday, they were processing credit cards by hand and they’re still figuring out how to efficiently accommodate big parties (8+). Anyway, hope to see you at the grand opening!

I went there on Friday. The lunch specials seemed a bit small but the food was very good.

Hello all,
Is there raw food available anywhere in Worcester? It sure would be nice to find some!
Thanks.
I’ve been a lover of Quan Yin for years…even when I’m broke and scrounging I could always count on a great inexpensive meal from friendly, animal rights conscious people!
Unfortunately, myself, my boyfriend and the other couple we went to the Buddha Hut with all contracted horrible food poisoning from our meals there. I was so sick I ended up in the ER for dehydration…other than that I hadn’t gotten food poisoning since before going vegetarian 6 years ago! I can’t help but wonder what could have contaminated the food so badly =(.
Anybody else?
[...] This past Sunday, the Telegram and Gazette featured a lengthy review of Buddha Hut, Worcester’s fanciest vegan restaurant. The T&G gave Buddha Hut a 3.5 out of 4 stars. Personally, I would give them the full 4 out of 4. It’s a pretty rad place. If you want to read my thoughts on Buddha Hut, you can read the review I posted when the restaurant first opened. [...]

Yo!!!! the food there is great ive been there at least 15 times the best thing there is the Crab Ragooooooooons there the bomb. I love it there at Buddha hut and you’ve got to fu**in try it.
My boyfriend and I have been to both Loving Huts in Worcester and in our opinion, the Loving Hut on Hamilton is much better than Chandler St. I know the veg. community wants to support Chandler St because they owned Quan Yin which was close to everyone’s heart but I have to be honest here. The food on Hamilton St is better quality, better taste, the sauces are incomparable. The sauces on Chandler St. tasted like ketchup. Hamilton St. was also voted #1 Loving Hut in the country. The owners are sweet souls who are deeply committed to the Loving Hut mission and put their heart and soul into their cooking. It’s one of our most favorite veg restaurants.
